HackaDev Enterprise Support Programme 2022
The socio-economic context that has emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected entrepreneurs, and it has acutely affected early-stage entrepreneurs.
HackaDev Enterprise Support Programme is committed to concrete actions that contribute to create and rebuild enterprises while further empowering the HackaDev community.
The programme is focused on providing further development support including financing, mentorship, guidance and incubation support.
Rules and Regulations
– Deadline for submission is 11.59 pm on 31st March 2022
– There are two categories of enterprise support available
1. Existing alumni entrepreneurs category.
2. New alumni entrepreneurs category.
3. Existing business category.
– Individuals who have taken part in the below HackaDev programmes in 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2021, and started a business are eligible to apply for the Existing alumni entrepreneurs category.
1. HackaDev National Youth Social Innovation Challenge – Social Innovation Camps
2. Technopreneurship for Social Change
3. Generation Unlimited Youth Challenge – Innovation Bootcamp
4. Entrepreneurship Boot Camp (Conducted by Sarvodaya in Eastern Province)
– Individuals who have taken part in the below HackaDev programmes in 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2021, who are interested in starting a business with a clear plan are eligible to apply for the New alumni entrepreneurs category.
1. HackaDev National Youth Social Innovation Challenge – Social Innovation Camps
2. Technopreneurship for Social Change
3. Generation Unlimited Youth Challenge – Innovation Bootcamp
4. Entrepreneurship Boot Camp (Conducted by Sarvodaya in Eastern Province)
– Active Social Enterprises who have been running an enterprise for a minimum period of 06 months or more and less than 02 years are eligible to apply for the Existing Businesses category. Applicants are required to provide proof of business existence (Business registration certificate, bank statements, etc) to be considered under this category. Founder(s) must also be less than the age of 35 as of 31st March 2022.
– Any of the HackaDev Alumni members who has received Seed Funding and Incubation Support through HackaDev Enterprise Programme Cohort 1, are not eligible to apply for the HackaDev Enterprise Support Programme 2021/22 (cohort 2).
The teams/individuals who are currently receiving the Seed Funding and Incubation Support under HackaDev National Youth Social Innovation Challenge 2020/21, are not eligible to apply for the HackaDev Enterprise Support Programme 2021/22 (cohort 2).
– Submissions can be made in either English, Sinhala or Tamil.
– Submissions can be individual or team applications.
– Team Applicants have to specify two or three members in the application form with required details (For the purpose of applications). But the number of team members are not limited and can have more than 3 members within the enterprise.
The enterprise will be owned by the applicant and there will be no ownership to UNDP or a third party involved in the process.
– Viability of the business idea
– The commitment of the applicant to establish/continue the enterprise
– Creativity and Out of the box thinking within the enterprise
– Scalability
– Impact
– The business idea should be submitted via this form. Those who fail to submit the application on time will not be considered for the HackaDev Enterprise Support Programme 2022
– For the New alumni entrepreneur’s category: the business registration has to be completed by the first milestone upon being selected
– For the Existing alumni entrepreneur’s category: the enterprise should be registered as a business to be eligible to receive the grant upon being selected.
– For the New businesses category: the enterprise should be registered and has been running for a minimum of 06 month and less than 02 years, as a business to be eligible to receive the grant upon being selected.
– The shortlisted applicants will be auditioned over a physical meeting/ a phone call or an email to further enquire on the application.
– Final selection will be based on the Evaluation Process and Criteria
– Selected business ideas will be notified within 2-3 weeks of the submission deadline.
– Seed fund disbursement and the incubation support / Further Development Support will be handled by a UNDP selected consultancy agency and the teams will have to agree with the particular agency on the 06-month incubation work plan and take timely actions to implement the new business idea/ improve the established business.

Incubation and Seed Funding being significant elements of enterprise building, HackaDev programme has been a shelter for a number of innovative ideas to be nurtured to enterprises under different areas of focus.
Under the different programmes of HackaDev National Youth Social Innovation Challenge, Generation Unlimited Youth Challenge, HackaDev COVID-19 Innovation Challenge and HackaDev Enterprise Support programme, a number of ideas/enterprises have been/ being incubated while providing necessary expertise, guidance and mentoring.

HackaDev Enterprise Support Programme (HESP)

Seed Funding and Incubation Programme of the HackaDev National Youth Social Innovation Challenge
HackaDev National Youth Social Innovation Challenge incubates a selected number of ideas to become social enterprises every year to further develop them towards implementation as a social enterprise.
The incubation programme which runs for a period of six months consists of comprehensive and tailored incubation support complete with milestone-based seed funding allocation.

Seed Funding and Incubation Programme of the Generation Unlimited Youth Challenge
The most innovative ideas from the Generation Unlimited Youth Challenge (GenU) – Innovation Bootcamps are selected for a 3 months Incubation period and are awarded seed funding to support the refinement of their ideas and kick-start implementation.
In 2020, its pilot year in Sri Lanka, 6 teams were incubated and awarded seed funding of USD $1,000 each, with 2 teams progressing to the global level of the challenge.
The key outcomes of the Incubation are about demonstrating the potential of the product and/or service, and the capacity of the team to learn and adapt to the customer needs.
