Growing Green Talents: Unlocking Youth Potential through Upskilling for Sustainable Development
To commemorate the International Youth Day 2023
The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, National Youth Services Council and the United Nations Development Programme in Sri Lanka present you the Youth Co:Lab National Youth Dialogue in commemoration of the International Youth Day on Saturday, 12 August 2023 from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. at The Eagle Room, Waters Edge, Colombo.
The event, co-hosted by the National Youth Services Council and the United Nations Development Programme in Sri Lanka, will be centered on green skills for sustainable development in accordance with this year’s global theme for IYD “Green Skills For Youth: Towards A Sustainable World“.
The programme includes an interactive dialogue on “Growing Green Talents” that will convene diverse stakeholders to raise awareness on the importance of building green skills for young people in Sri Lanka and a spotlight segment that highlights and celebrates story sharing by ongoing youth-led green development efforts within the country.

Shanjeevan Amalanathan
Shanjeewan co-founded OceanBiome, a community of talents with a focus on ocean research to map the path to engaging in ocean protection to enable the next generation of leaders to engage in ocean literacy and stewardship to become ocean ambassadors in Sri Lanka.
Sandul Perera
BSc. Engineering (Hons.) – University of Moratuwa, CIMA(UK)
Co-Founder and CEO of Ray Engineering
Ray Engineering specialises in providing Hardware and Firmware Product Development and Industrial Engineering Solutions.
Kaveesha Siriwardane
Kaveesha is by profession an Actuarial Associate and by passion a Social Entrepreneur. She is actively involved in supporting the community with sustainable green solutions to persisting issues. One of her key focuses is to support end period poverty, which makes her a Co-Founder of ‘HER PACK’ – a sustainable initiative to address the issue of period poverty whilst bringing a green solution along with creating new employment opportunities.
Shanjeevan Amalanathan
Jayanthan is a dedicated founder, sustainable visionary, and technology strategist who has taken the lead in shaping positive change through innovation. As the driving force behind SPM (Sustainable People’s Movement), he has channeled his passion for technology into a transformative initiative that empowers local individuals and communities to embrace the digital age.
Edison Marynathan
Edison Marynathan is a marine and coastal environmentalist from a fishery village in the Mannar district of Northern Province called “Vidathal Theevu”. Obtained his basic degree from Ruhuna University of Sri Lanka. Following masters in Environmental Sciences. Collaborating with multiple environmental conservation agencies to reach the local communities, especially fishery communities in the northern part of Sri Lanka.
Objectives
NATIONAL YOUTH DIALOGUE
Foster dialogue: Facilitate an open, interactive, and inclusive dialogue among influential figures, high-level officials, including government representatives, policymakers, experts, youth representatives, development partners and relevant private sector stakeholders to exchange ideas and experiences on upskilling youth for a green transformation.
Strengthen partnerships: Creating a space to enable meaningful partnerships to proactively engage youth for development with a focus on climate and environment.
Share best practices: Share successful initiatives and best practices from different regions, sectors, and organizations that have effectively empowered youth in contributing to green development.
Policy recommendations: Formulate actionable policy recommendations and strategies to enhance youth empowerment, and participation in decision-making processes.
Expected Outcomes
NATIONAL YOUTH DIALOGUE
Enhanced understanding: Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of youth empowerment and its positive impact on sustainable development.
Policy recommendations: A comprehensive set of policy recommendations will be formulated based on the insights shared during the panel discussion.
